The New Hampshire Insurance Department has approved this course for 13 CE credits.
The Gas/Oil Service and Appliances course begins with a discussion of the chemical properties and characteristics of different types of gasses and fuel oil. Testing of gas/oil supply services and devices is also covered, along with the different methods of delivery and storage. A large portion of the course is dedicated to discussion and demonstration of the function (and potential to malfunction) of igniters, solenoids, relief valves, pilot lights, and other features and safety components typical to gas services and appliances. Oil high limit switches, fire-o-matic valves, transformers, electrodes, nozzles, and cad cells will be discussed and demonstrated to show proper and improper function. Gas-fired stoves, ovens, dryers, water heaters, boilers, oil furnaces, and direct vent heaters are just some of the items to which students will have access and have the opportunity to conduct hands-on examination and disassembly. Trained instruction will also demonstrate how these appliances might fail, resulting in gas/oil leaks and potential ignition. Upon the conclusion of the hands-on training in The Interactive Laboratory, the remainder of the course will focus on proper scene processing, handling of appliances and components as evidence, and making accurate determinations. Certificates will be issued to students who have successfully completed the course.
